Senior Dog Evades Animal Control for 5 Hours Before Reuniting with Family

San Francisco dog Nieve, an 8-year-old Westie, had a dramatic adventure when she went missing in July. Her owner, Carlos, feared she had escaped or been stolen while he was away working. He posted about her disappearance on social media, hoping for a lead.

Soon after, San Francisco Animal Care & Control received a call about a white dog near train tracks. What should have been a simple rescue turned into a five-hour chase as Nieve skillfully dodged officers. Despite her age, the spirited terrier led them on a lengthy pursuit before finally being caught behind a parked car.

Nieve was taken to a city shelter, then transferred to Muttville Senior Dog Rescue. There, an adoption counselor recognized her from Carlos’s missing dog posts. The timeline matched, confirming it was Nieve.

Miraculously, Nieve had avoided serious danger during her ordeal. “It’s amazing someone didn’t take her home or she didn’t get hit by a car,” said a Muttville representative.

The story ended happily when Nieve was reunited with Carlos and his son. Overwhelmed with emotion, Carlos held his dog tightly, repeating, “Thank you, thank you,” marking a heartwarming conclusion to her wild adventure.
